Whitsundays & Outer Great Barrier Reef Adventure

August 2024, we’re thrilled to be again offering the ultimate ocean adventure – 5 days and 4 nights living aboard a maxi-yacht sailboat anchored in the remote Outer Great Barrier Reef. Each day we’ll explore this immense wilderness absolutely teeming with psychedelic fish life and corals. You’ll have the opportunity to snorkel and capture stunning underwater photography, refine your freediving under expert instruction and harvest fresh and delicious seafood sustainably from the source. This trip is suitable for beginner and experienced freedivers alike. All you’ll need is your own freedive/spearfishing gear and we’ll take care of the rest.

As with all ocean adventures, the weather and conditions will ultimately determine our itinerary on this trip. Thankfully, the Whitsunday Islands offer abundant protected areas to snorkel, freedive and spearfish in the event of less-than-ideal weather. We have planned this trip in August to take advantage of the most stable weather patterns.

Example Itinerary:

Day 1 – We set sail from the Coral Sea marina in Airlie Beach making the short sail across to the Whitsunday Islands where we’ll find a picturesque bay to anchor in and begin our spearfishing for beginners course and freediving refresher including theory and a gentle line diving session to get our bearings and feel comfortable in the water. Epic sunset vistas and a delicious shared meal before gently rocking ourselves to sleep on the yacht.

Day 2 – Set sail to the Outer Great Barrier Reef where we’ll anchor the yacht in one of the endless turquoise lagoons which will be our home for the next few days. First day on the reef will include an afternoon spearing/snorkelling session and cookup of our catch on the boat.

Day 3 and 4 – Two full days spent exploring the vast wilderness of the reef. There will be morning and afternoon spearfishing/snorkelling sessions up to 4hrs duration each. Each night will be spent hanging out and laughing with friends as the sun sets over the reef with the Whitsundays only a distant speck on the horizon.

Day 5 – Possible early morning spear session then begin the sail trip back through the Whitsundays, arriving at the Coral Sea Marina around 330pm

The maxi yacht ‘Condor’, is operated by a professional crew of 4 who will cater to all of our needs, ensuring we’re safe, well fed and having the best time possible. They will provide 3 delicious meals a day, including cooking our freshly caught seafood. Alcohol is BYO.
